IT news:Honor CEO reveals phones to reduce eye strain and detect AI deepfakes

Last week, Honor joined other global tech companies at the GSMA Mobile World Congress (MWC) in Shanghai to present its latest mobile innovations. At the event, George Zhao, Honor’s CEO, spoke  about the company's focus on AI technologies.

After Honor's Magic V2 smartphone was awarded "best smartphone in Asia" at the GSMA Mobile World Congress, the company's CEO, George Zhao, spoke with Euronews. He discussed Honor's innovative technologies, including their AI Defocus Eye Protection, which uses special glass designed to reduce eye strain.

"Honor's AI Defocus Eye Protection technology moves beyond mere prevention to actively relieving eye strain. This innovation has demonstrated an average reduction of transient myopia by 13 degrees after 25 minutes of reading, with some users experiencing reductions up to 75 degrees," Zhao explained. He also mentioned that their AI Deepfake Detection technology analyzes details such as eye contact, lighting, image clarity, and video playback on a frame-by-frame basis to detect manipulations that are not noticeable to the human eye.

Honor announced that their cloud-based deepfake detection software utilizes advanced algorithms to examine crucial factors like eye contact, image clarity, and video playback to identify manipulated images.

"AI is incredibly powerful. With deepfakes and cloud AI, you can alter a face in just one second in front of the camera. However, our on-device AI can detect these deepfake alterations, providing protection for users. This represents the future of on-device AI capabilities," George Zhao explained.
